Explore the beautiful country side around Middleton-in-Teesdale and the Pennine way. Visit attractions at nearby Barnard Castle such as the Castle, Bowes Museum (a personal recommnedation!) and all the great little independant retail and coffee shops. Historic Durham city is only a 45 minute journey away and hosts the famous cathedral, university museums and Crook Hall Gardens.A 'must see' is the spectacular 'Kynren' outdoor live event performed throughout the summer months. We have plenty of castles and historic houses and gardens to visit, all within driving distance, such as Belsay Hall & Gardens, Raby Castle and lots of Roman gems such as Binchester Roman Bath House in Bishop Auckland and Corbrdge Roman Street. I could go on - there is so much to see and do!
There are so many visitor attractions in this area of outstanding natural beauty. Go and see High Force after rain - it is truly spectacular! Park up at Bowlees Visitor Centre and cross Wynch Bridge over Low Force to walk part of the Pennine Way and soak in the breath taking beauty.
There are plenty of places to visit by car with less walking. Whatever you like to do, there is something for everyone. There is also an hourly bus servcie to Barnard Castle Monday to Saturday which takes you through the picturesque villages of Teesdale.
